Have you ever heard of “Elon Musk”? A.K.A. real-life Iron Man? If not then I bet that as engineering students you must have heard of SpaceX and Tesla Motor (electric cars company). Well, we’re talking about its CEO, the billionaire Elon Musk, who also developed PayPal.
This inspiring man was born on June 28, 1971, in South Africa. He had a kind of tough childhood especially because of his parents’ divorce and suffered from bullying at school. Yet he has always been a passionate kid craving for knowledge, at the age of 12 he learned programming then created a game that he sold for about $500 to a company. And that was his first step to a life overwhelmed with success.
At the age of 17, he moved to Canada, where his mother lived, and had many jobs to finance his studies at the Queen’s University, then he got a scholarship from Pennsylvania and moved to the USA to study physics and economics.
After getting rejected in many job offers, Elon finally decided to create his own company with his brother named Zip2. Elon still had money problems, so he slept at the office after working from early morning till the afternoon keeping the company on balance during the hardest times then sold it after 4 years getting $22millions from the sale. Later he continued his career by starting another company more like an online bank named X.com and then renamed it PayPal. That’s when the real success story has started when he got $165million when he acquired it for eBay and guess what? Elon invested his money into another project which is Tesla Motor. As he said ‘’Tesla is here to stay and keep fighting for the revolution’’, now it is ruling the electric cars market. And what added a massive success to Elon is SpaceX as he taught himself Rocket Science just like programming.
Elon self-built the person he is right now saying No to every obstacle, he always had the never give up mentality “A failure is an option here. If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough.’’ Being a hard worker his whole life, working 80-100 hours a week. So, next time you say you want to be as successful as Elon, Think of the sacrifices and the hard work he has done to achieve them all and say if he could then I can too, as said Elon, “I think it’s possible for the ordinary people to choose to be extraordinary.”
